Hunger-Thon

Hunger-Thon overnight lock-in and service day focuses on keeping the vigil of Pentecost though worship, Word and prayer overnight.  This is different from our typical events and is meant to give a more meaningful, deeper faith experience for youth than other events provide.  Activities include Lectio Divina, prayer stations, a continuous reading of the New Testament throughout the overnight, and of course games, mixers and more.  This event is held at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in downtown Buffalo, NY, a cathedral-like setting that adds to the atmosphere of this event.

After the overnight, we head out into the community of downtown Buffalo the next day in service to our neighbors.

All the while, we are fasting ourselves to get a little "taste" of hunger ourselves, breaking our fast with a community picnic and worship to wrap up the event.

Check out any of the links below to see what this event has looked like in previous years, and learn about next year's event and how you can be a part of it.

What a fantastic overnight and day after for the approximately 50 youth and adults at this year's Hunger-Thon at Holy Trinity, Buffalo on May 14-15!  Overnight we had some games, worship, and a series of workshops designed to take us deeper in our faith.  The next day we hiked up to the West Side and planted two apple trees in front of Concerned Ecumenical Ministry's building as our symbolic gesture to feed the city (all the while fasting ourselves).  Upon coming back, the parking lot was transformed into a community picnic free for all with music by the band from North Park Lutheran.  Best of all, $1,350 was raised to support Loaves and Fishes, a community soup kitchen!  Thanks to Holy Trinity, Buffalo for their leadership and to all that came and made a difference for this great event that's sure to return next year!

See our Picture Album for pictures from the 2010 event.
